THIS is the car detectives are trying to trace after a motorist stabbed a pedestrian in the face following a heated road rage row outside Arsenal's Emirates Stadium. Detectives released the CCTV images this morning in the hope they could provide vital clues as to the identity of the driver.
Police are treating the attack, which happened on Saturday February 6, as a racially aggravated assault. The stabbing followed a row between the motorist, who had two young children in car seats in the back of his car, and a 29-year-old man from Kilburn, at the junction with Benwell Road, Holloway, at lunchtime. Police say they think the driver lost his temper, shouted racial abuse at the victim and the exchange ended with both men spitting at each other. Minutes later, the victim was approached and struck from behind, only later realising he'd been stabbed in the face. The suspect being sought by police is described as stocky, about 5ft 6in tall, in his late 20s with short dark/brown hair, and was wearing blue jeans and a blue or dark coloured bomber type jacket. He spoke with a northern accent.
Detective Sergeant Tony Quinlan, investigating, said: "This was a vicious attack carried out for no apparent reason. "Islington Police treats all stabbings very seriously especially those which are racially aggravated. Anyone who recognises this vehicle or thinks they know who this man is should call the Community Safety Unit on 020 7421 0175 and ask for DS Tony Quinlan or DC Peter Smith."
Anyone with information can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
