Green Party reveal election line-up

Camden Green Party's have confirmed its parliamentary candidates will also stand for election to the Town Hall - possibly on the same day. The group revealed its plans as it unveiled a "strong all female team for St Pancras and Somers Town" council ward.

Journalist Natalie Bennett will stand in the council ward - currently held by Labour - at the same time as taking on Frank Dobson in the Holborn and St Pancras parliamentary constituency.

She will be joined in the St Pancras and Somers Town council ward on the campaign trail by cabaret performer Matty Mitford and Cathryn Simons, chair of the tenants association at Cranleigh House. The council-wide ballot will be held on May 6, the same day that has been widely predicted as the likely date for the next General Election.

As in Ms Bennett's case, the party's parliamentary candidate in Hampstead and Kilburn Beatrix Campbell will also stand in the council poll after confirming she is among Green candidates in the Bloomsbury ward.

Ms Bennett said: “The fact that St Pancras and Somers Town has a male life expectancy  11 years shorter than that in Hampstead is a disgrace, and a reflect of the neglect from which the area has suffered.  It has seen continual construction for decades, has horribly overcrowded housing, and is home to many people who public services – from the NHS to the education system to the benefits system – have failed to provide adequate support.”
