David Miliband: The boy from Haverstock School who wants to be leader of the Labour Party

DAVID Miliband - a former student at Haverstock School in Chalk Farm - today launched a bid to take over the Labour Party.

The now ex-Foreign Secretary, who lives in Primrose Hill, confirmed he will be taking party in any leadership contest following yesterday's resignation of Gordon Brown.

Mr Miliband has often talked fondly of his days at Haverstock, although he attended before it was transformed by a PFI rebuild five years ago.

He said today: "We have achieved a great deal in government but this is a new era with new dangers, opportunities and possibilities. It puts an enormous responsibility on the Labour Party to be a great unifying force for all shades of centre and centre-left opinion in this country."

His brother, Ed Miliband, another former Haverstock pupil, has not ruled himself. He recently moved to Dartmouth Park. Over the last month, noth brothers joined the campaigns to help Glenda Jackson and Frank Dobson get re-elected to Parliament.
