The pilferer and the Fury! Billy Fury Way sign stolen

IT was only unveiled a matter of weeks ago, but already the new Billy Fury Way road sign in West Hampstead has been stolen.
Although it is unclear who has taken it, fingers would perhaps point to the late crooner’s army of fans.
He may have been dead for nearly three decades, but that doesn’t stop Fury devotees posting thousands of comments on websites each year discussing his life and times.
It is the latest twist in a project launched by Liberal Democrat councillor John Bryant more than a year ago.
Spurred on to act after police revealed they had no way of recording crimes on certain alleyways in West Hampstead because they did not have an official name, Cllr Bryant called for the public to help.
They texted and wrote in calling for a path, which leads from West End Lane to Finchley Road, to be named after Fury in recognition of the hits he recorded at the nearby and Decca Studios in Broadhurst Gardens, which have since closed.

Billy Fury Way.
