A FORMER drama teacher dismissed from an Islington primary school after it emerged he was being investigated for child sex offences at a previous school, has died the day before his trial was due to commence.

Robert Stringer, who taught at Canonbury Primary School for a short time last year, died when his car smashed into a bridge on the A41 in Bourne End, Hertfordshire, on Sunday.

He was due to stand trial at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday for charged with offences against four young girls between 1999 and 2009, including three counts of rape against a child under 14 and eight counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.

None of the charges relates to Canonbury.
