Indigo’s six help fire Swiss Cottage to win Top Team Trophy at DX

TRIUMPHANT swimmers from Camden Swiss Cottage turned in some brilliant performances to win the Top Team Trophy at the DX meet in Sheffield. 

A squad of 37 swimmers from the club recorded an astonishing 95 personal best long-course times as they swept aside the competition last week. The star of the show was ­Indigo Mathews who smashed six personal records on her way to winning two gold medals, three silvers and a bronze. 

The 11-year-old, who swims in the club’s intermediate squad under coach Mark Allen, was even more delighted with gaining National Age Group qualifying times in the 100m butterfly, and the 100m and 400m freestyle. 

Team-mate Olivia Willis, who also swims in the intermediate group, came away with a handful of medals. 

The 13-year-old won the 200m individual medley, before finishing inside the national qualifying time to win the 200m backstroke. She also took silver in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 50m and 100m freestyle. 

Rose Hughes was in sparkling form as she won gold in the 50m backstroke in a fast 30.62 seconds, finishing well inside the senior national qualifying time of 31.60 secs. The speedy 16-year-old also posted a personal best in the 100m backstroke to take silver. 

Emily House swam four personal bests with her top performance earning her a gold medal and a national qualifying time in the 200m freestyle. 

The medal count continued to climb as swimmers repeatedly finished inside the national mark. Among the record breakers were Jessica Hobbs, 17, who took a bronze in the 100m butterfly and Kelly Hookway, 14, who won silver in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 200m freestyle. 

Leo Jaggs, 17, picked up bronze in the 100m freestyle, while Tamsin Mckinnon set qualifying times in the 50m and 100m breaststroke. 

Tamsin, 15, smashed personal best times in four out of her five events, with the best coming in the 50m breaststroke where she hit home in 34.39 secs. Morgan Mills continued the impressive run when she gained her second national time of the season in the 200m backstroke. 

There were also medals for Hok Iao Wong, who took gold and silver in his respective 100m and 200m breaststroke races, and Will Rittenhouse, who won a silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze medals in the 100m backstroke, the 200m butterfly and the 400m individual medley.
