CAPTAIN Shane Cojocarel was the undisputed man-of-the-match as Locomotive Youth captured the Under-14s Cheshunt League Cup with a resounding 4-0 win over Ridgeway Rovers.
The skipper (pictured centre front row) led by example within minutes of the kick-off when he got on the end of a well-weighted free-kick from Euan Taylor-Reid. Three minutes later Cojocarel helped double the advantage when his cross was flicked on by EJ Gyebi, allowing Charles Prince to smash home a volley at the back post.
On 25 minutes the result was put beyond doubt as the Ridgeway keeper failed to deal with another Taylor-Reid free-kick and Rushane Cornette-Brown was on hand to make it 3-0. Cojocarel wrapped up the rout with his second of the game after linking-up well with Gyebi.
Afterwards Locomotive manager Jamie Houghton said: “We were worthy cup winners for a second year running. In the league we’re a point behind leaders Brimsdown, there’s four games left and we’re going to push them all the way.
“Whatever happens we’ve had a great season and the boys should be really proud of themselves.”
A depleted Locomotive side just missed out on a cup double on Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 by Wandsworth Town in the Under-14s County Cup final. Boss Houghton said: “We asked a number of less experienced players to step up to the plate and they all did brilliantly. They can hold their heads high.”
