Sabre trio sharpen up in Austria

A TOP trio from Camden Fencing Club sharpened the skills at the weekend in the European Cadet Championships in Austria.
Fabio Artesi showed a return to form as he finished 13th in a field of 73 fencers in the men’s sabre event. Starting slowly, Fabio lost the first two matches in his pool before winning the next four.
He went on to win his first two elimination rounds before losing to the top German fencer Thomas Gorzen. Fabio’s twin, Gianfranco Artesi, finished 37th in the same event, winning three out of six pool matches before losing to France’s Maxence Lambert.
Britain’s top ranked cadet Aliya Itzkowitz was 25th in the women’s sabre. She won four out of six pool matches, before losing to Valeria Bolshakova of Russia.
