Duane O’Achie settles on Shrimpers
STRIKER Duane O’Achie looks to have finally found his feet in the footballing world with League One side Southend.
The towering 17-year-old, who lives in Holloway, has spent time at eight different clubs during his quest to become a professional footballer.
Proving that persistence and determination are vital if he is to achieve his goal, Duane is finally enjoying a more settled life with the Shrimpers.
“Since signing a two-year scholarship with the club in September I have really been made to feel like a part of the squad,” he said.
“The coaches believe in me, which has given my confidence a real boost.
“Playing in a comfortable environment obviously brings out the best in me so hopefully now I’m settled I can show the coaches what I’m capable of.”
Duane’s journey really has gone full circle.
When he joined the Pro Touch Soccer Academy almost four years ago he was taken to Southend for his first ever trial with a pro club.
Now he’s back, and ready for business.
