IT was a stalemate Saturday for Islington’s Primary Schools District footballers as both their boys’ and girls’ teams were held to goalless draws
A PATCHED-up boys’ team dominated against Bermondsey and Rotherhithe at Dulwich Park with Shane Cook, Canaan McDonald and Ryan Ward all going close to breaking the deadlock. At the other end goalkeeper Billy Fleming played his part with the save of the match when, having already dived one way, he stretched out a foot to block a goal-bound shot.
Football Development Manager Michael MacNeill said: “What pleased me most was that we reproduced some of the ideas we had been working on in training.”
In only their second game as a team the girls showed tremendous improvement as they drew with Sutton, the side that beat them 8-1 in their debut match in January.
Keepers Megan Kellegher and Venetia McNally, in goal for a half each, both kept clean sheets. Carly Sharp almost gave Islington the lead but her volley was inches wide, and Rosie Wakefield-Lynch hit the woodwork. Casey Dorney, Samia Abdurahaman and Natasha Thomas put in impressive displays.
