So, maybe the pundits aren’t always right…

ARSENAL
PEOPLE say don’t read too much into Arsenal’s stunning 3-0 win at Manchester City because the home team was down to 10 men for most of the match. Ha-rumph.

How unfair on the Gunners, heroes to the whole world for downing a grotesque team built on money. Rather than search for some way to belittle Arsenal’s wondrous achievements, people should be thanking the club this week for poking one of the big spenders in the eye.

Let’s try it now, collectively. Deep breath everyone. You can do this – and you can be in on this too, Spurs fans. It’s for the greater good. Don’t be shy.

One…Two…Three…

Thank you,  Arsenal.

Thank you for scoring a victory for the people against the bloated excesses of Manchester City, a team intent on buying success in the same hollow way Chelsea did. There is no glory in winning the league if you’ve spent £800 million – or whatever the bill is for Santa Cruz, Given, Adebayor and Lescott to sit on a substitutes’ bench.

Or whatever the cost was to buy the Chelsea squad. Let’s go again. One…Two…Three…

Thank you,  Arsenal.

Doesn’t it feel good, people? We can all let the burden of football rivalry float away. The common enemy is the teams mocking the recession with their vulgar spending.

So thank you Arsenal for beating  Man City.

Thank you for saving us.

We are forever in your debt.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
SOMETIMES I really don’t like listening to football pundits; especially the ones that have never played the game.

The only difference between them and us is they get paid for their opinions, but that doesn’t make them right.

Many have made reference to Spurs’ fans “celebrating” the loss against Inter Milan in the Champions League. Yes, I along with many others celebrated. But it wasn’t the defeat, but the application and strength that Spurs showed in the second-half we were cheering. At 4-0 there was a real danger of us conceding six or seven and that would have been hard to take.

Spurs have not fielded the same back-four all season: not an excuse but a fact. They’re playing in a league many thought they’d never reach and they’re doing much better than anyone expected.

What I want from our European adventure is a good showing in the group stages. Of course, it would be a bonus if we get through to the knockout stages.

Let me also remind those paid few that when our nouveau riche west London rivals Chelsea and “that lot over there” Arsenal first entered the Champions League it took them time to get going. Look at them now.

Considering the mid-week hangover, Redknapp’s boys did us proud at the Lane on Saturday when they came from a goal down to draw against Everton. We showed tremendous spirit and should have won it.
