NETBALLERS from Great Ormond Street Hospital were jumping for joy after being crowned champions in the Summer Play League, which was held at Highbury Grove School in Islington.
Under the guidance of coach Tania Legore, GOSH beat rivals Warriors 25-9 in their final game thanks to a superb shooting partnership between Lucy Askem and Clare Gilmour.
Afterwards manager Legore said: “I have been working with the girls for a couple of seasons now and it’s great to see so many of the things we have worked on put into practice.
“I am very pleased to see them do so well and hope they continue to be successful next season now they’ve been promoted.
“I must give special congratulations to Clare Gilmour for being given the Player-of-the-Final Award.”
Dream start to season for Cumberland
CUMBERLAND’S Premiership team got their season off to a flyer with a 41-26 goal victory against Chester Netball Club.
Strong mid-court play by player-of-the-match Laura-Jane Brenan kept the Camden-based team in control of the game throughout.
Cumberland’s recently-promoted regional team also made a brilliant start, drawing 49-49 with Comets. Star performers included the team’s captain Sam Howlett-Bolton, who led the team with her accurate shooting and was deservedly named the players’ player of the game.
