Road crash death woman was student president of Cambridge University karate club

Tan, 20

Friday October 1, 2010

The woman who died in yesterday's suspected hit and run collision in Belsize Park was the president of Cambridge University's karate club. Tributes have been paid to Mingwei Tan, 20, a medical student in her fourth year of study.

In her application to become the club's president, she said: "I'm keen! Better than just attending them, I enjoy trainings and socials enough to want to have a hand in organising them. I've got experience. I was chairperson of the Green Club and Medical Society in school, and am undergraduate secretary of the Kelvin Club and JCR International Rep at Peterhouse, as well as women's squash captain, so I think I've got the organisational skills it takes to make sure the club runs smoothly. So that's it! I'm at club events, and I enjoy them enough to want to organise them, which I think I've got enough experience to be able to do."
