THE London Blitz American Football Club retained the National Championship on Saturday when they defeated Coventry Jets 34-20 at BritBowl XXIV at the Sixways Stadium, Worcester.

The Blitz took an early lead, with quarterback Fred Boyle (pictured) sneaking the ball in behind his trusted offensive line for the game’s first score. Kicker Ed Morgan added the point after. The Blitz’s lead didn’t last long as the Jets soon evened up the score with a touchdown and extra point of their own. The game was still close going in to half-time with the score at 21-14.

The Blitz looked likely to rue their missed opportunities from the first half as a Jets touchdown cut their lead down to within a point, but defensive back Aaron Sanders-Percival blocked the Jets’ extra point to keep the Blitz in the lead.

Two touchdown runs from running back Gareth Dauley rounded off the scoring as the Blitz secured a magnificent victory over their rivals.
