Town ‘magnificent’ after cup defeat

KENTISH Town players have vowed that come September they will “kick start their season” after their FA Cup dreams were shattered on Sunday.

The Townies (pictured) were far from their best at Silver Jubilee Park in Kingsbury as they lost to Bethnal Green United in their highly-anticipated preliminary round tie.

Having gone a goal down midway through the first half, there was a glimmer of hope when Alan Murray equalised within a minute.

The celebrations didn’t last long, however, as Bethnal Green United bounced back to seal a convincing 3-1 win.

The defeat was compounded on Tuesday when the Townies lost 2-0 away at Chalfont St Peter in the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League, albeit after putting in a much better display.

The semi-professional side are bottom of the table with one point from their opening five games after enduring a tough month that saw them face away games against the teams that finished at the top of the table last season.

With some of their most testing fixtures now behind them, manager Rakatahr Hudson is confident his team will quickly start netting the right results and climbing the table.

“We always knew that August would be a tough month for us and we earmarked September as the month to kick start our season.

After the FA Cup game we were disappointed with our performance.

We played really badly, didn’t defend as a team and we paid the price.

“We let ourselves down and we can’t hide away from that fact.

Let’s just say that the changing room after the game wasn’t the nicest place to be and some harsh words were said.

“But when you lose a game like that the most important thing is how the players respond, and on Tuesday I thought they were magnificent.

“We played really well and didn’t deserve to lose. I think we played the best team in the league and we were unlucky not to take something from the game.”
