World Cup fives stars sharpen up

SCORES of budding young footballers from across Camden and Islington have been warming up for the new season by taking part in their very own World Cup.

With amateur leagues across the country set to kick off again in September, youngsters have been sharpening their skills in the five-a-side competition held at the Swiss Cottage Sports Pitch.

Players from the Copenhagen Youth Project, who were flying the flag for England, won the Under-13s Cup after netting a 1-0 victory over rivals South Hampstead FC, who were representing Spain.

There was double delight for  Peel as they collected individual awards for Kyron Farrell, who was voted Most Sporting Player, and Ronnie Grub, who was named Top Goalkeeper.

South Hampstead FC also made sure they didn’t return home empty-handed as they beat Winchtonians, who were playing as Ghana, 3-1 to be crowned Under-15s champions.
