YOUTH footballers from Camden and Islington gained valuable international experience this week when they played in the prestigious Gothia World Youth Cup in Sweden.
Under-14 players from Regent’s Park FC’s Pro Academy Squad (RP) battled their way into second spot in a group which featured teams from America and Norway.
Jordan Spearman, Liam Currie, Fatos Mripa and Isaac Levi were all on target for RP as they secured a place in the knockout stages.
The club’s progress was halted by a 2-0 loss to Swedish side Sandarna BK but RP chairman John McCulloch was delighted with the performance of manager Seb Smith’s side.
McCulloch described the trip as a “life-changing experience” for players who were among 400 to compete in their age group.
“Having only set up in 2006, the club’s ambitions are to win a Gothia Cup,” he added. “To do this will take a lot of effort along the way but the aim is to have fun on this fascinating adventure.”
