Islington youngsters overjoyed at results from events held at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre

YOUNGSTERS from across Islington joined forces at the weekend to compete in the prestigious London Youth Games.
Boys and girls aged seven to 17 more than held their own at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.
Among the individual medal winners was star swimmer Devon Robins, who captured gold in the senior girls’ 50m butterfly with a time of 29.60 seconds.
The senior boys’ team of Bogac Ayhan, John Rivers, Dominic McLoughlin and Santiago Parilli also struck gold as they won the 4x50m medley relay in a time of 1.56.54.
Bogac also won a bronze medal in the senior boys’ 50m backstroke event in a time of 29.10.
One of Islington’s top performers – literally – was Elliott Innocent, who showed tremendous skill on his way to winning gold in the individual boys’ trampolining event.
There was also medal joy for Ryan Gordon, who collected judo bronze in the 81kg category.
In the mini-games which were held on Thursday the water polo team returned home with a bronze.
More than 600 youngsters competed for the borough, gaining 19 top-20 finishes. Overall Islington finished 31st with 740 points.
