UEFA Champions League
Arsenal 0, FCR Duisburg 2

ARSENAL Ladies’ hopes of conquering Europe were shattered on Sunday when they were sent crashing out of the Champions League.

Trailing 2-1 from the first-leg against German side Duisburg, Laura Harvey’s team were sunk by two second-half goals at Bishop’s Stortford FC in Hertfordshire. Jennifer Oster converted Inka Grings’ pass three minutes after the break before substitute Marina Himmighofen ended Arsenal’s resistance three minutes from time, handing the European champions a 4-1 victory on aggregate.

The Gunner Girls will now have to look closer to home for silverware, and still have a Premier League, an FA Cup and a London County Cup treble in their sights.

Hampstead march goes on

Greater London League
John Greenacre Memorial Trophy
Tower Hamlets 0, Hampstead 3

HAMPSTEAD remain on the trophy trail after comfortably beating a Tower Hamlets team that play two divisions above them on Sunday.

It took Hampstead just 15 minutes to find the back of the net when Claire Arnold started and finished off a sensational counter-attack.

Arnold grabbed her second of the game early in the second-half when she raced on to the end of Laura Mifsud’s long goal kick and calmly rolled her shot beyond the keeper.

The game was put to bed in the 61st minute when Rhi Gladman’s perfectly-weighted through ball allowed Val Toro to wrap up a resounding 3-0 win.
