FEATHERWEIGHT Ricky Redhead booked his place in the semi-finals of the National Schoolboys Championships on Saturday with a hard-fought victory in Essex.

The William Ellis pupil, who trains at St Pancras Boxing Club in Kentish Town, showed tremendous strength and fitness to secure a 22-19 points win over Michael O’Leary from Southend Boxing Club after three, two-minute rounds.

St Pancras coach Mourad Boudjemaa, who trains Ricky alongside junior coach Steve Smith, also reigned in the ring when he made a winning debut for London against the Army.

The hard-hitting middleweight won on points, dropping opponent Andy Haron to the canvas with a devastating left-hook in the second round of their scheduled three- round contest.

Saints team-mate Ady Nkalonatia was unlucky to lose on points in his middleweight contest, with London losing 5-3 overall to a well-schooled Army team.
