john rety - tribute

i met john rety selling intimate review in the g and g coffee bar at charing cross in the 50's and he slipped in and out of my life continually, often by chance or on demonstrations.
i would say 99.9% of my memories of john are associated with laughter. he
had a way of looking at the ridiculous aspect of human activity, how we trip ourselves up when attempting serious thought. this was often accompanied by copious amounts of beer, sue and johns home made brew being the heartiest. He gave me my first exhibition at the Shaw Theatre for the Armistice anti-war "celebrations" and later was kind enough to give me a spot on the stage at torriano to read some poetry i had written on the forthcoming general election. For all these generous hearted gifts i thank him . He will be missed.
