Dorothy Robinson, who was reunited with her grandson after 33 years
|
Lover of song, dance and stage
DOROTHY Robinson, described by friends and neighbours as a vivacious woman who threw herself into local life, has died, aged 92, after a long illness.
Mrs Robinson lived in Gospel Oak and Kentish Town all her life. She moved to Parliament Hill Mansions, Lissenden Gardens, in Gospel Oak, 33 years ago after a tragic house fire in which her son Rodney died.
A dog lover whose passion for singing, dance and the stage made way in time for whist and trips to the seaside, she married twice, but had been separated from her family for several years until a remarkable reunion.
Neighbour Mavis Haut started a search for Mrs Robinson’s grandson, Jonathon Pendrill, who had not seen his grandmother since 1973, when he was aged seven. Through adverts in newspapers in Ipswich, she eventually contacted him and arranged a reunion at Christmas at the care home in Cricklewood where Mrs Robinson spent her last months.
Mr Pendrill, who lives in Essex, was to see his grandmother only once. At the funeral service at Golders Green Crematorium yesterday (Wednesday), he spoke of his pleasure at meeting his grandmother but wished it could have been 10 years earlier.
A New Journal investigation into how council officials cleared Mrs Robinson’s flat while she was in the nursing home has prompted a review of procedures.
