EastEnders star gets Porter role to kill for
THE actress who played EastEnders murderess Chrissie Watts has triumphed in the battle of the casting couch to play one of Westminster’s most infamous real-life politicians, Shirley Porter.
Tracey-Ann Oberman, 40, the woman who murdered Dirty Den in the cellar of the Queen Vic in 2004, will summon up more malevolence to perform the role of the Tesco heiress and former leader of Westminster Council in a new radio play about her life.
It should be noted that Shirley Porter never killed anybody nor has she ever faced any criminal charges, although she was fined £42million for gerrymandering, which saw her move thousands of Labour supporting council tenants into asbestos-ridden flats in the 1980s.
The play, called Shirleymander, will be recorded later this month and is due to be aired on BBC Radio 4 next year, with a West End play in the offing. It is an adaptation by scriptwriter Gregory Evans of Nothing Like a Dame, the Scandals of Shirley Porter, which was written by Today programme reporter Andrew Hosken.
Now aged 78, Ms Porter lives in exile in Israel. In 2004 she was ordered to pay £12m to Westminster Council. |
