Tower Festival
The CONTINENTAL AIRLINES TOWER FESTIVAL will take place from the 10th- 20th September at the historical TOWER OF LONDON.

THE festival is arguably the finest celebration of opera, dance, jazz, world and classical music located in the heart of London.
The event opens on the 10th with Nigel Kennedy and the Philharmonia Orchestra for an evening of Bach concertos and the music of Duke Ellington. On Friday 11th is ‘Sadler’s Wells is Dance’ – a gala evening showcasing the best in dance with Royal Ballet principal Tamara Rojo (Ballet), Paco Pena & Company (Flamenco), Anton du Beke & Erin Boag (Ballroom), Richard Alston Dance Company (Contemporary) and Swedish company Bounce (Street Dance).
One of Britain’s most popular soprano’s Lesley Garrett and Classical Brits nominees the Fron Male Voice Choir will perform a unique concert together on Saturday12th with compositions by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bernstein, Franck and other well known classics. They will be accompanied by the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble.
On the 13th and 15th there is a special production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Yeomen of the Guard’ starring Paul Nicholas – commissioned by the Festival, it is the first time the opera has been performed at the Tower where the action is set, since 1978. This production will be the 121st anniversary of the operas’ first presentation - it first opened in 1888 at the Savoy Theatre. The full all-star cast will be announced shortly.
World renowned soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa performs with stars from her music academy and the City of London Sinfonia on Wednesday 16th.
Thursday 17th celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Miles Davis’s landmark album Kind of Blue. Legendary jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb (the only surviving member from the original recording) and his ‘So What’ band, will perform masterpieces from the album including "So What", "Freddie Freeloader", "Blue In Green", "All Blues", and "Flamenco Sketches" plus other classics by Davis, John Coltrane, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, and original compositions inspired by this era. Courtney Pine will open the show making it an must see event for jazz lovers.
On the 18th the British Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing a gala evening of popular classics including Tchaikovsky Capriccio Italien, Handel Water Music Suite, Rossini William Tell Overture, Verdi Sempre Libre from La Traviata (with special guest Natasha Marsh), Grieg Piano Concerto (with special guest Nigel Hutchison), Walton Crown Imperial and Johann Strauss Blue Danube Waltz plus many more favourites. The evening is conducted by Anthony Gabriele.
On the 19th and 20th September, Peter Gabriel’s celebrated festival WOMAD presents a weekend of world music featuring Khaled, Imagined Village, The Bays and Heritage Orchestra and Tony Allen plus many more to be announced. As part of the WOMAD weekend there will be workshops, where the audience has a chance to meet and learn about the visiting artists and their music. There will also be entertainment provided in the picnic areas throughout the day and the ubiquitous WOMAD flags will also be a feature of the weekend.
