Police move on Model
HOW many policemen does it take to shut a brothel?
A dozen or so officers helped close two prostitutes’ flats in Dean Street on Wednesday.
The “walk-up” – as it’s technically known in police-speak (for it to be a brothel there has to be more than a sex worker and her maid) – has been a hangout for drug dealers and felons for 16 years. The landmark closure was made possible by new legislation that allows police to shut down houses that are the cause of persistent anti-social behaviour.
Police Sergeant Matthew Butterworth said: “This is good news for residents. This walk-up has been a blight on the neighbourhood for too long, with drug dealers, and criminals operating at all hours.”
Police took just half an hour to shut down the two flats – which should remain closed for three months pending a court hearing. |
