• A RARELY performed play by Greek writer Paris Tacopoulos can currently be experienced at London’s home of Greek theatre, Camden’s Theatro Technis, as part of the International Theatre Festival. The play, which was written in English by Tacopolous, is a poetic stream of consciousness in the style of James Joyce. Catch it at Theatro Technis, 26 Crowndale Road, NW1, until Saturday, November 21. Performances start at 8pm and tickets are priced £10 (£8 concs).
l The impact of knife crime will be explored in a hard-hitting play at Islington’s excellent Old Red Lion Theatre for one night only next week. The play stars Femi Oyeniran, who played the character of Moony in the films Kidulthood and Adulthood, and there will be a Q&A after the event on Monday, November 23 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 and £6 concessions.
• X-FACTOR and Strictly eat your hearts out. Self-styled “silly, irreverent” collective Avin A Larf are aiming to raise the profile of comedy ditties by staging a talent contest of their own. If you think you’ve got what it takes to make people guffaw with a silly song, visit the Musical Comedy Awards 2010 section of the website musicalcomedy.co.uk. Competition heats will be held at venues around north London. You have until December 12 to enter.
l The price of decadence will be explored in a new comedy, Bacchus in Rehab, at Camden Town’s Etcetera Theatre from next week. The play imagines what would happen if Bacchus, the ancient Greek god of wine, were banished from Mount Olympus for his rowdiness and forced for find a new purpose. Tickets are £11.50, £9.50 concs, and the play runs from November 24-December 13.
