Grooves
BY now the Electric Proms are well under way and I’m in need of some sleep.
Robbie’s huge comeback stirred up the tabloids, N-Dubz sneaked in an early morning session on Wednesday and Dizzee’s stirring things up as usual. See next week’s Grooves for a full round-up.
• THE booker at the Lexington’s clearly well connected. The bar’s latest coup? Seasick Steve played to an intimate audience of 200 on Monday ahead of his UK tour.
• IS it true A-Ha have split up? Are we bothered? They did their time, move on.
• REALLY pleased to hear former Record of the Week Airbourne Toxic Event’s Sometime Around Midnight is being re-released next month. Give it another chance.
• IF you’re a devout follower of the Kingdom of Leon, there’s a decade’s worth of photographic tourbus mayhem to worship up on the walls of Proud Camden. NME photographer, friend of the band, and person with a job worth killing for, Jo McCaughey was there on Wednesday to launch her exhibition, Kings Of Leon: Ten Year Reign, which runs until December 6.
• I SAW the Zombies at the Jazz Café the other week. Not too sure about their new stuff which verged on luvvie Michael Ball-type musical drudge, but when they went back to the 60s they were in their element. There was a generous selection from 1967 hit album Odessey and Oracle, with She’s Not There and Time of the Season naturally winning the biggest reaction. Encores were God Gave Rock ’n’ Roll to You and Summertime.
• MORE than 400 years of traditional music from Bosnia and Herzegovina comes to life at Relentless Garage on October 25 with the Mostar Sevdah Reunion. Tatcho Drom supports. Tickets £18.
