Island of the mind
JOURNAL OF AN URBAN ROBINSON CRUSOE Pentameters
MENTAL illness is a difficult issue for any director to tackle, yet Harry Meacher succeeds in making Journal of an Urban Robinson Crusoe deeply touching.
The six actors each play a facet of the character of Des Marshall, who suffers from a mental illness, and the play takes us through why Des’s condition occurs and how it manifests itself.
The play is supported by the Camden Mental Health Consortium and comes at a time when campaigns are telling us our attitudes to mental health must change.
Far from being depressing, the play is actually quite funny in parts. The actors are remarkable and though there is little movement in the play, they keep the audience glued to every word. Until October 24
