BANANARAMA! What? Who? Is it an ancient dessert I hear you ask? No, it’s an 80s girl band. For readers who do remember them, the flat-voiced band – missing Siobhan Fahey, who left to form Shakespeare’s Sister – appeared at Highbury’s Relentless Garage with their reinvented electro-pop sound on Monday. They look like they’ve hardly aged at all. Hard to believe Bananarama, famous for such hits as Robert Di Niro’s Waiting and Venus, formed 27 years ago.
• ON to boy bands. Sorry to hear of the demise of Boyzone’s Stephen Gately, who lived in Archway. I saw him do Jive Talkin’ at last year’s Electric Proms Saturday Night Fever evening. Sad news.
• SO many names on the Union Chapel’s Mencap Little Noise Sessions line-up it’s tough to choose. For now, I’d go for Richard Hawley, Hockey and I Blame Coco (Sting’s daughter’s band), though more names will be announced. As ever, there’ll be some surprise appearances.
• KILBURN rejoice, a Camden Crawl-style festival is winging its way to you (October 25). Oxjam Kilburn will feature more than 25 bands and musicians taking over the bars and pubs in Kilburn High Road. Visit www.
