Grooves
• I’VE been away at my cousin’s wedding all week so while I may now be au fait with the latest Egyptian/Greek/ Cypriot hits, I haven’t heard any new music from this side of the world at all.
Which is why it’s so good to know there’s such a promising couple of months ahead – there’s no time to mope about during the winter months with so many exciting collaborations to come. More names have been added to the Electric Proms line-up, with Robbie Williams and Dame Shirley Bassey headlining, though Smokey Robinson’s the one I’m looking out for. And in November (16-25), some of the most memorable events of the year, the Mencap Little Noise Sessions, are back. The unforgettable series of concerts brings new, established and surprise acts, often playing unplugged, in the atmospheric surroundings of Islington’s Union Chapel. Hundreds of little tea lights illuminate the chapel’s incredible architecture, while the sounds bounce off the stone carvings with unique acoustic results. Last year, The Killers dropped by unannounced. If you can get to only one event in November let this be it. This year’s line-up includes The Maccabees, Florence and the Machine, Mike, Taio Crux, Tinchy Stryder and Golden Silvers. More info fromwww.littlenoisesessions.org.uk
