Job vacancy is not for the weak-kneed
PREVIEW: ENO MESSIAH
The Coliseum
THE English National Opera is seeking to recruit up to 50 people with Westminster connections to be members of a crowd of non-singers in its new staging of Handel’s Messiah in late November and December.
Recruits need to have “movement skills” to be part of “dynamic crowd” scenes – presumably that’s a PC way of saying: no senior citizens with wonky knees unable to run about the stage.
“We are creating a company of people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in live performances alongside world-famous singers and our outstanding chorus and orchestra,” says the ENO.
“If you live, work or study in Westminster and can commit to a demanding schedule of
rehearsals and performances from early this month till December 11, the ENO will be delighted to hear from you.”
Noted theatre
and opera director Deborah Warner will be in charge of directing the new Messiah.
For lovers of Messiah, Handel’s most famous creation with its rousing chorus, it sounds fun – particularly if you’ve got good knees.
