Pick of the Indies
NOW this is a film I can’t wait to see:
Kentish Town-based artist, film director and general polymath Nick Hillel is waiting to see whether he will get the go-ahead next week to turn his lens on
Hampstead Heath.
I can vouch that Nick is a hugely talented film-maker – you should check out his website at www.yeastculture.org – and knows the Heath like the back of his hand. His aim is to make a film, working title Heath Life, to celebrate the rich heritage of the Heath and explore its role and resonance for Londoners today.
I hear that if he gets the nod to start work, it will run for 60 minutes and include a series of film workshops for more than 130 people to get involved with.
Nick has lived by the Heath all his life – and Indies feels lucky to have such a director wanting to do this so close to home. I hear he has been influenced by Gideon Koppel’s award-winning work Sleep Furiously, about the isolated Welsh farming community that gave his emigre parents a haven during the 1930s.
Let’s hope he gets the backing he needs.
