Up for a Sunday picnic anyone?
CHEF Oliver Rowe knows just how to create the perfect one: “It’s definitely all about the people for me.
“Having lots of nice people there really makes the day. But, of course, the food is important too – stay away from Marks and Spencer and a bring bottle of really good champagne with you.”
Oliver Rowe is the head chef and owner of Konstam – a new restaurant in King’s Cross committed to using locally-sourced produce grown or reared exclusively within the Greater London area.
Join the crowd on Hampstead Heath next Sunday for this year’s summer picnic. Bring your own hamper or order a bespoke one especially from Konstam. And with home-smoked mackerel and horseradish crème fraiche on the menu, it certainly beats a packet of soggy sausage rolls.
What’s more, this year’s culinary feast will feature an old classic – the scotch egg.
Oliver said: “Really good scotch eggs are actually quite hard to make but are really delicious when made well. I wanted to include a traditional foodstuff that most people will enjoy. English picnics are all about strawberries and cream, and a good roast beef sandwich with horseradish. However, I’m a real fan of a nice quiche, not very manly I know!
“There will be entertainment too – frisbees and, of course, a flat football knocking about somewhere. Let’s hope we see some sunshine.”
Anyone is welcome, with over 250 picnic-goers expected to attend the event taking place on Sunday July 26.
Guests should meet at 1pm on Hampstead Heath (see Konstam website for details). DAN CARRIER
