Jamie T on stage at the Roundhouse
Not a T-shirt in sight!
REVIEW:JAMIE T (iTUNES FESTIVAL) Roundhouse
A DIRECTIVE appears to have been sent out to all lads before Jamie T’s i-Tunes opening gig – polo shirts compulsory. Not to be left out, the young quiffed Jamie wore similar, proving, as he does in his response-demanding songwriting, that he’s clearly connected to his audience. As they are to him.
The mainly male crowd, similar to those The Streets attract, take every opportunity to finish his sentences in the style of a football chant/sidekick rapper. It’s the Kasabian effect.
In the two years since his debut album Panic Prevention was nominated for a Mercury award, Jamie’s spirit has been simmering nicely and he exploded onstage like a young artist who’s only just been discovered.
Only he hasn’t. He’s been through the media mill and is back with a vengeance.
His new single Sticks and Stones is already on the tip of the tongue but the older favourites, If You’ve Got The Money, Sheila and the ever-intriguing Salvador, remain as inventive as ever.
A fitting start to the month-long Roundhouse festival.
