The Review - MUSIC - grooves with RóISíN GADELRAB Published: 25 June 2009
SADLY, the only music I heard on holiday was Lady Gaga’s headache-inducing Poker Face, on repetition on the radio, and Queen blasting out by the pool. I’m sure Sicily is harbouring some worthy musicians, but their radio stations seem to favour Beyonce’s Single Ladies over home-grown talent, so I’m still none the wiser.
* Peter Bjorn and John reopen the legendary Garage in Highbury tomorrow (Friday). The Killers kick off Hard Rock Calling, followed by Neil Young on Saturday and the Boss – Springsteen – in Hyde Park on Sunday. Just hoping the weather will hold out. Then next weekend we’ve got Wireless with Basement Jaxx, Kanye West, Dizzee Rascal and more, more, more!
* Kentish Town’s on tour. Word reaches Grooves that a limited number of tickets are available for the ultimate boutique summer festival, at a secret location in Norfolk on an incredible organic farm owned, I am told, by a senior peer with a background in the green movement. Organised by Sisters of the Claw, a collective of top party throwers, it features top Camden acts such as Man Like Me as well as non-Camden successes including chill-out kings Zero 7. It’s a highlight of the outdoor party season and tickets are pretty cheap – £75 for a weekend of camping in magnificent surroundings with a happy bunch and splendid acts. * Final thought – Has Kate Moss really destroyed The Kills’ only copies of their latest recordings? Reports suggest she threw boyfriend Jamie Hince’s bag in a swimming pool during a row, not knowing his laptop containing the only copies were inside. Is this forgiveable? It depends what you think of The Kills.
