CULT music mag Artrocker emailed the music press this week lamenting the loss of independent music publication Plan B.
Although Plan B will still exist online, the print version’s fallen victim to the recession. Artrocker’s editor described the collapse as a “death in the family”, pledging it would fight to survive. Plan B’s noble epitath before falling on its sword? “We’re still above water, we’re making some beautiful magazines, and we are quitting while we’re ahead.” The moral of the story: use it or lose it.
• Starsailor, Bombay Bicycle Club and Mercury award nominees Portico Quartet played a secret gig at the Union Chapel in aid of homeless charity Crisis.
• Record of the week: Buy My Record by David Saw.
Not so much about the music as the CD, although the song’s a pleasant little summer tune. Although vinyls will always be king, Saw’s single comes in the form of a mini record – shiny, black and complete with grooves. Worth it even for novelty value. A jazzy, uptempo ditty, more lively than his usual laid-back selections and the better for it.
