ON my first draft of the Juliette Lewis preview, she was billed as “Juliette Lewis and The New Romantiques”.
What happened to the Licks? Are they no more? But then I heard Lewis’s new work and realised she’d moved on to a deeper, more soulful plane. The New Romantiques were announced as her new band in February. But by the time I’d managed to put pen to paper to start on this new outfit, I discovered young Juliette now wants to be billed as Juliette Lewis. No “and the” anythings.
• I HEAR the boys behind Camden’s newest festival Camden Rocks – The Prince of Wales’ Marc Hayward and Alan Beeby of Cherry Cola fame – are having talks with Pete Doherty to headline. I understand there’s a couple more names to be added to the bill yet – watch this space.
• FOLK darling Laura Marling was due to play a secret gig at Kentish Town’s Flowerpot on Wednesday. She’s just back off tour with Andrew Bird, whose 2001 album The Swimming Hour is on repeat on my iPod.
• POOR old Morrissey had to cancel his Albert Hall gig this week due to a sore throat. Same with the Specials last week as Terry Hall was stricken – there must be something going round.
