WORD reaches us that Camden Town director Franny Armstrong, whose eco-doc Age of Stupid has become a worldwide hit, is due to feature in the July edition of Vogue with film producer Lizzie Gillett.
Meanwhile, Franny has headed to Washington this week with her movie to host a special screening at the Centre For American Progress, an influential think-tank. The film is also being taken through the former coalfields of northern England in a bicycle-powered caravan.
Called “The Coal Caravan”, volunteers are taking it on by bike to Blyth next week. At each stop, they have shown bike-powered screenings of the alongside discussions.
Meanwhile, if you fancy getting to see the latest releases before the rest of us, check out this new scheme by Vue Cinemas, who run the screens in the Finchley Road’s O2 Centre. Here is the deal: it’s a mystery movie and you won’t know what is playing until the credits role up. While the usual rules regarding certificates apply, the idea goes like this – you buy a ticket and get to see a film before it’s on general release. If during the first 20 minutes you decide you don’t want to watch it, you can get a full refund. Tickets for all the performances from www.myvue.com
