AS the former chief artist for the Mongolian Postal Service, Otgonbayar Tod’s work has travelled across the Gobi desert and the vast steppes once stalked by Genghis Khan.
Next week Tod’s art goes even further afield, to Burgh House in Hampstead. Now decamped to Plymouth, Mr Tod’s provocative use of Buddhist iconography (forbidden back in Mongolia) meets less censorship; his latest paintings will share wall space with young up and comer Nurmaajav Tuvdendorj.
While the old postmaster venerates the contemporary, the art graduate Tuvdendorj harks back to tradition, using the “earth paint” of native artists to depict nomad life. SIMON WROE
