Reese’s big problems saving the world
MONSTERS VS ALIENS Directed by Rob Letterman
Certificate PG
WHILE the animated M versus A is not as gorgeous to look at as Wall-E, it does have the added attraction of being in 3-D. Hometown California girl Susan (voiced by Reese Witherspoon) is about to get married to weatherman Derek Dietl (Paul Rudd). Moments before the ceremony, a meteorite splats the bride. But rather than kill her, it contains a green glowy force that causes her to grow until she towers above the city.
She is taken into custody and locked up in a top-secret base where other freaks reside.
It seems they are all destined to spend their lives in an underground bunker – until a baddie alien tries to retrieve the force that was responsible for turning Susan large. Only our motley collection of chums can scupper his plans and save the world.
Monsters versus Aliens is gentle, and has some wonderfully touching and comic interludes.
