The JD Set
Some sound advice from the industry insiders
THE JD SET
EVERY second a new band is born – or that’s what it feels like when you’re based in Camden.
But it’s hard for ambitious musicians to get a leg up in the world, and I bet many would jump at the chance to seek free advice from industry insiders who have worked with the likes of The Pretenders, Supergrass, Slash, and CSS.
So for one day only, Jack Daniel’s musical alter ego, The JD Set, is holding a masterclass at the Institute of Contemporary Music in Dyne Road, Kilburn.
Sound engineer Donard Duffy, music lawyers Lance Phillips and Stephen Kemper, Richard Hawley’s manager Graham Wrench and Artrocker magazine reviews editor Richard Davis will give their expert opinions at a public question and answer session.
Young bands can go along and seek advice from the best in the business.
The Q&A will be followed by free admission to The JD Set Unsigned quarter-finals at the Luminaire with The Fan Club, Bang Bang Bang and The Elrics.
The bands will battle it out via an online vote for the chance to get their music mounted on to the front cover of Artrocker.
If you’re in need of a sharper image, media savvy, a more intense sound, an A-Z of attracting managers or in-depth music legal help, get down to the Institute of Contemporary Music on February 27.
Register online at www.thejdset.co.uk/ unsigned.
• The Q&A takes place at 5.30pm, followed by a gig at The Luminaire at 7pm.
