AS if she were playing a game of hide and seek, photographer Julia Sasse peeks round corners and peers through windows.
Her new exhibition, Upon A Hill Over London, at Burgh House in New End, focuses on little-known sights in Hampstead. From dinky alleyways to front doors, from elevated house details to peering through shop doors, her work brings together images of the unsung charms of Hampstead Village.
The German-born photographer, who lives in West Hampstead, said the place she has adopted as home never ceases to be an inspiration.
She says: “During my journeys throughout the capital I kept being drawn back to this elevated area. It appears to be detached, physically and worldly, hovering above the city like a podium. Being there feels as though one temporarily slips into another world or a different time. Houses, streets, establishments and nature all convey an aura of ancient days.”
