The Review - CLASSICAL & JAZZ - with TONY KIELY

An all-star gig with the best of bebop

PREVIEW: VILLANDRY JAZZ IN THE LUND - THE BEBOP ALL STARS
Lund Theatre - UCS

TRUMPET sensation Henry Armburg Jennings takes to the stage at UCS on Thursday for the Villandry Jazz in the Lund Bebop All-Stars gig.
Armburg Jennings, a former pupil at UCS, is blazing a trail through the jazz world at the tender age of 19.
Last year he was voted among the top 10 young jazz musicians in the country, with a style comparable to that of Clifford Brown and Kenny Dorham.
He regularly plays with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and has his own touring quintet.
Joining him on the night are Peter King on sax, Alec Dankworth on bass, Clark Tracey on drums and Leon Greening on piano.
King, something of a legend on the scene, was the first saxophonist Ronnie Scott booked for the opening of his club in 1959.
In the 40 years since that historic night he has played with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world, from Ray Charles and Tubby Hays to Stan Tracey and Anita O’Day.
This is a line-up not to be missed, from a series that’s fast becoming one of the highlights of the London jazz scene.

The Bebop All Stars play at the Lund Theatre, University College School, Frognal, Hampstead, NW3, on February 5 at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm). £11 (advance), £13 on the door, £6 students.
