Signs are good as Tommy aims for Orange future
REVIEW: TOMMY REILLY
Proud
HE’S not a strong singer, he’s not a guitar maestro, but Tommy Reilly’s raw and honest songwriting won over the crowd at Proud.
Tommy’s the awkward Scottish 19-year-old who’s been competing in Channel 4’s Orange Unsigned Act competition for the past few months.
He’s the surprise act, who was rejected by judge Jo Wylie in round one, but then immediately invited back when she realised she’d made a mistake.
Tommy played to a pretty packed house last week – his humble, bashful nature coming through as he repeatedly apologised for only having slow songs.
His popularity lies in his ability to express the pain of rejection from girls and the desperation of wanting one to like him back.
He struggles to reach the higher notes but, in Tommy’s case, this only adds to the suffering he’s going through, and the mad hacking at his guitar adds youth to his playing. Tommy’s set included favourites I Don’t Like Coffee and the famous Give Me a Call.
Tommy’s made it through to the semi-finals so look out for him on Channel 4 at 1.45pm on Sunday.
