The Review - MUSIC - grooves with ROISIN GADELRAB Published: 18 December 2008
ONE of the most memorable moments of last year’s Electric Proms came during Mark Ronson’s set.
He brought on Charlie Waller from The Rumble Strips to cover Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black.
It was such a fantastic interpretation that I went straight to YouTube to watch it over again and up to now I see it’s been watched more than 80,000 times.
Until then I was hardly even aware of The Rumble Strips but have since developed a bit of a fondness for them.
So I’m pleased to hear they’ll be playing the Barfly on Friday.
I’VE become addicted to Channel 4’s Mobile Act Unsigned – the search for new talent that last year brought us Envy and Other Sins and The Bad Robots. Camden girl Fiona Bevan is sadly no longer in it but look out for awkward Scot Tommy Reilly whose raw sad stories about girls are truly heartbreaking. This week he also did an incredible version of The Killers’ Mr Brightside – you can see it online at http:// orangeunsignedact. co.uk/
NEW Year’s Eve headaches begin days before the event when you’re trying to co-ordinate friends, venues and tickets. If you haven’t got a house party to go to yet check out next week’s page when we’ll be giving you a round-up of the best nights in the neighbourhood.
KEEP sending in your CDs for Record of the Week – you don’t have to be signed, you just have to be good.
