TOMORROW (Friday) sees the opening of the all-new Belsize Park Everyman cinema. Formerly the Screen on the Hill, the picture palace has been renovated and to celebrate the re-opening the cinema has a series of incredible screenings.
Top of the list is the charity show they are laying on for the New Journal’s Christmas Hamper fund. The festive classic Scrooge, starring Alistair Sim as Ebenezer, includes a talk by Charles Dickens expert Les Standiford
The show is on Sunday, December 21 at 4pm, and, as well as being the perfect way to give yourself some Christmas cheer, you can help others by supporting our charity.
The Everyman has been a cinema since 1934, when it opened as the Odeon Haverstock Hill, a year after the original Everyman in Holly Bush Vale began life as a cinema. But now it’s firmly in the 21st century. Among the flash gizmos are electronic reclining chairs and sofas. There is also a waiter service and a beautiful new bar.
The week of celebrations starts tomorrow with a screening of the new Baz Luhrman film, Australia. Other super previews include the highly rated Danny Boyle film Slumdog Millionaire.
And the owners are offering a free screening of the Italian classic The Bicycle Thieves to people who live in NW3, followed by Hampstead resident Ridley Scott’s final cut of the sci-fi classic Blade Runner.
