Stone of destiny
Also on release this week

STONE of Destiny is the long-awaited romp about the theft from Westminster Abbey of the Stone of Scone, the block of sandstone that sat under a throne for hundreds of years after it was pinched by Edward I in the 1200s. In 1950 a gang of Scottish separatists led by wild-eyed student Ian Hamilton decided it was high time to return the relic to its rightful home up north.
Charlie Cox stars in this enjoyable adventure based on Hamilton’s memoirs and is joined by Robert Carlyle and Billy Boyd.

Inkheart is a passable children’s fantasy tale about a man who has a special ability: Mo (The Mummy’s Brendan Fraser) can bring the characters in the pages of books he reads to life. But when evil Capricorn (Andy Serkis) is accidentally released by Mo from a book called Inkheart, his daughter Meggie is in danger. There are plenty of japes, scrapes and trickery.
If your younger ones liked the Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter, then this should be a hit too.

EDWARDIAN England comes to life through the rather bizarre lens of New Zealand director Toa Fraser in Dean Stanley, a gentle and comic piece of stiff-upper-lippery with humorous takes on the foibles of the English upper classes. It stars Peter O’Toole, Jeremy Northam and Sam Neill, and is a perfectly gentle way to spend a couple of hours.

THE beauty of the Eiger is laid bare in North Face – as is the ugliness of man’s pride and cruelty to fellow man. This film tells the story of the mountaineers who tried to conquer this terrible ascent up the harsh side of the Alpine peak to glorify the Nazi regime. Well shot and cast.
