Fight Like Apes at Barfly
Apes: say you want an evolution? Well...
PREVIEW: FIGHT LIKE APES
Barfly
HAVING toured with the Ting Tings and been picked to open for The Prodigy next month, Fight Like Apes have a strong claim to be support band of 2008.
Now the punchy Dublin four-piece are headlining the eight-date Levi’s OnestoWatch tour, which stops at the Barfly on November 20.
With energetic songs, quirky tongue-in-cheek lyrics and a female singer/three blokes line-up, in lazy music critic shorthand they might be described as a bit like Be Your Own Pet with synthesisers.
They also clearly have affection for late-lamented Welsh pop-punks McClusky and even have a touch of Bow Wow Wow.
But Fight Like Apes have a simian style all of their own, blending riffs and synths to excellent effect on songs like “Something Global” and UK single “Jake Summers”.
A great chance for anyone who turned up late for the Ting Tings’ show at The Forum to see what they missed. Support from indie-discoists The Electric City. ALAN STAFFORD
