Return to planet cool
PREVIEW: SEU JORGE Roundhouse
FROM the streets of Rio to a starring role in The City of God, the coolest man on the planet, Seu Jorge, returns to the Roundhouse next Thursday.
Playing urban sambas, Brazilian funk and accompanied by a bouncing big band, the singer-songwriter will be playing music from his brand new album, America Brasil. Critically acclaimed as his best yet, expect the unexpected.
Jorge has become a cult figure: the laidback Brazilian has forged a spectacular career in music and film after escaping the streets of Rio.
He starred in gangster classic City of God and Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic, memorable for his interpretation of David Bowie’s songs.
Jorge’s last visit to Camden in 2006 was the most successful tour of the UK ever undertaken by a Brazilian musician.
Support on the night from friend and champion, DJ Gilles Peterson. Pascoe Sabido
• Seu Jorge plays the Roundhouse on October 30.
