A. HUMAN - THIRD HAND PROPHECY
HOW refreshing that A. Human is not “yet another one of those indie bands”.
These six London blokes, who met at a pub in Clerkenwell, have just released an incredibly mature first album.
Third Hand Prophecy, with its blend of real instruments and electro, has something that separates it from others.
Despite the resemblance to all kinds of artists – from Bowie to New Order to Nine Inch Nails to Soulwax – it is impossible to stuff this band into a category.
Post-punk guitars are perfectly woven with tonnes of electro elements and 1980s synth. But to reduce A. Human to a neo-80s band would not be fair, as on songs like Sun Will Rise, the ballad is almost purely acoustic, as is Why Do I Try, an instrumental with chilled-out beats.
An absolute highlight is the hypnotic track Pacey Singer, which forces you to press the repeat button just to hear that catchy chorus again and again.
Frontman Dave Human’s voice is cool, dark and addictive. An extremely mature – and wonderfully different – debut album. Wiebke Toebelmann
